CJ normally doesn’t give much attention to anything that’s not life-like such as cartoons, computer graphics, or anything animated or fake. I initially was solely against him watching television, but his play area is in our living room which is also where our tv is, so his exposure to television isn’t infrequent at all. I’ve tried to get him to watch some Sesame Street, but CJ would rather watch the weather channel than Big Bird. And it’s also difficult to get him exposed to some of the other PBS programs such as Thomas the Tank Engine because they’re on weekday mornings when we’re both at work.

Well, since CJ is so into our ipads and iphones, this week I tried showing him a few Sesame Street clips from youtube and at first he didn’t care much for them, but I love Cookie Monster and showed him a few clips and CJ fell in love with one particular video titled “Cookie World” in which Cookie Monster talks to a cookie and involves others to help him explain how to eat a cookie. And what’s great is that the clip is over ten minutes long which helps give me a small breather.

Before he was born, I vowed to not be one of those parents that resorts to technology to distract and get their child to calm down, but apparently I’m one of them now. Oh well.

He wasn’t able to make the connection at first, but after a few viewings he now knows the video and toy are the same. I even think he recognizes cookie monster’s name now.
