A few Friday’s ago we ate at the ramen place Hinomaru in Astoria because we wanted to see what all the hype was.

I called to make sure they had seats with a backing so that CJ can sit in his portable restaurant seat. Instead, they actually had high chairs, but also took our reservation over the phone when yelp said they didn’t take reservations. Well, when we entered, we understood why. The restaurant was surprisingly empty on an early Friday night and they wanted us to commit to coming to dine at their establishment. Interesting.

We started with some type of pineapple shrimp appetizer that was surprisingly ample and good.

I forgot which ramen dishes we ordered, but they were pretty good…but not great.

We ordered the doughy ice cream dessert that was good, but left us wanting for more. As  you can tell, this place didn’t make much of an impression on me. There was nothing bad about this place, but nothing exciting or different either. In the end, I rather do a shorter drive to Flushing’s New World Mall and order cheaper ramen there with a better dessert selection.
